Had a great time at this one!DAV Chapter 42 and hosting club V-Twin Cruisers M/C had their "RUN TO THE RIVER" to help support disabled veterans and the Fisher House on May 17, 2008 Armed Veterans Day.
It was a little wet in the morning but a half an hour before the 11am pull out time the sun came out with white puffy clouds. Members of DAV Chapter 42 were on hand along with the young Marines.
V-Twin Cruiser member and past commander of DAV Chapter 42 John O'Malley and myself led the ride with a layover stop at the Wagon Wheel with food and refreshments. Before we left out of Western Reserve H-D I picked up a passenger Leo (Lee) Kelly a disabled American veteran who wanted to go on the run very badly and was told that a guy with a three wheeler would show up to take him on the run, well he didn't show and Lee's heart was broken and disappointed. John asked me if I had room for him and I said sure, anything for a brother, so as we got to the Wagon Wheel, I got off my bike and looked back at Lee with a big grin on his face from ear to ear, "thanks Vern" he said. You could tell he was really enjoin the ride. With some help from some other riders we got him off the back of the bike and again he smiled and laughed. I said come on, lets go in and get something to eat. Lee looked at me and said with a big smile "You know Vern the last time I was on a bike was with my Dad, I really miss it."
Before we left out of the Wagon Wheel we took some pictures of Lee on the bike and then it was off to Geneva State Park and then south to the Harpersfield Covered Bridge and then east to Thompson, Ohio, a cruise down River Road and on to the ending point at Blazzin Bills in Grand River.
Some people hung around the bikes in the parking lot and sucked up the warmth of the sun as others went inside to eat, pick up door prizes, and play the Harley Quiz game for a chance at more prizes and listen to the band.
I also want to thank V-Twin Cruiser member Grumpy for a lot of good laughs before, during and after the run.
Pic's to come soon.
