SR-9 I love this ride! If your coming from the Cleveland area pick up SR-14 heading east to SR-45 in Salem, Ohio. Anyone from the east side can take 44, 528, 534, or 45 south to SR-9 south in Salem. This road has nice long sweeping curves, hills, and great scenery along the way. This ride is 89 miles from Salem to its end in Armstrong Mills, Ohio.
Most of this road has nice pavement and with the long sweepers you can build up quite a bit of speed if you want. Myself I just like kicking back and enjoying the rolling hills and some of Ohio's farm scenery. The first major town you will come to is Carrollton, Ohio., this is a good place to stop for a break or get gas. After you leave here the hills get bigger and you'll arrive in a little town called Jewett that sits in a little valley. The next major town you will come to is Cadiz, Ohio., this is where SR-9 crosses SR-22 & SR-250. Cadiz is an old town established in 1803. Clark Cable was born here February 1st 1901 on 138 Charleston Street which is now a museum for the famous Hollywood legion. The museum is open 10am till 4pm on week days and from 1:30pm to 4pm on Sundays, with an admission price of $5.50.
After you leave out of Cadiz and right before you get to I-70 you will pass through an old town called St. Clairsville, Ohio., plenty of places here to eat, get gas or a motel room. Just a few minutes away from here is Jamboree In The Hills, home of the largest country music concerts in the Mid-West, the Super Bowl of Country Music is held here in these rolling hills every third week of July from Thur-Sunday.
Now after you pass over I-70, SR-9 gets very hilly like a roller coaster ride and finally ends into SR-148 as you go down a really steep hill.
NOTE: There are many nice roads off of SR-9 that have a lot of nice twisty roads, curves, hills, and nice scenery.
One such road after leaving Salem heading south on SR-9 you will reach a place called Kensington, Ohio. Turn left onto SR-644 which runs south and passes through Summitville, Salineville, Bergholz and then crosses over SR-43 back onto SR-9
This is a photo of SR-9 where it ends into SR-148 in Armstrong, Ohio. If you take SR-148 south it will end at SR-7 along the Ohio River, and if you take it northwest it will take you to SR-800. SR-148 is also scenic with nice sweeping curves, but watch for Dump Trucks and Semi's, they love to travel this road.
