Ok everyone, I would like to know if anyone is interested in doing some "one day" rides this summer. You know, leave in the early morning and return in the evening the same day. There are TONS of places close to us that are interesting to see and don't cost a lot of money. I'm working on about 2 or 3 rides now and would love some input from members. Where would you like to take a nice one day ride to? Let me know and we'll do it! With Strokers (Pam's) blessing, of course.

Hammer, we all know some of the best roads in Ohio are in south so a southern ride is a "gimmie". ;D I'm also checking into a ride to Put-n-Bay. Jester, thanks for the links, some darn good ideas there.

Hey Chili Dog, your getting some good responce on the one day rides. Well here is mine........ THE MOTORCYCLIST MEMORIAL in Hopedale, Ohio. This is the first motorcycle memorial in the U.S.A. If your leaving from the north try this ride out. Pick up Rt-14 southeast to Rt-45 South (Salem, Ohio Area) to Rt-9 South. You will love Rt-9, fast pase with a lot of nice sweeping curves and hills. Take this through Carrolton, Oh., nice spot for a roadside break. Keep heading south till you get to a small ugly town called Jewett, Oh., turn left onto Rt-151 heading southeast, cross over/or under Rt-22 going through Hopedale, Oh., pass Woods Grocery store and through the old train tunnel and then turn right (Rose Valley Rd.) this might not be marked about 100 yrds then turn left until you see the Amercan Legion Post....you are there. They also have signs posted for the Motorcycle Memorial along Rose Valley Rd. You can also get something to snack on and drink at the American Legion Post. www.motorcyclistmemorial.com/index.htmlwww.bikernet.com/news/PageViewer.asp?PageID=1105

COOK FOREST STATE PARK - Cooksburg, PANice scenic ride whatever way you choose to get there. Cook Forest State Park is in the Allegheny National Forest on Rt-36, just before you get to the state park on you left you will see Cook Forest Fun Park with go-karts, bumper boats, mini-golf, water slides and an arcade. Nice place to stop and have a little fun. If you keep going you will come to the park entrance, don't forget to check out the Scenic Overlook and Fire Tower. The drive back to it is on a dirt road and a little long, but the view is really great and you can climb the 70ft Fire Tower for an even better view. The Clarion River is just around the bend and if you turn left before the bridge, this road runs along the river for quite a few miles, you will pass people in canoes waving at you like your a movie star or something. If you decide to cross the bridge over the river, stop in at the general store, and just up the road you will also find Parker's Indian Trading Post, Log Cabin Rentals, Trail Rides by horseback and more fun rides. This run will take up your whole day. It's a 3 hour ride out and about 150 miles to get there. Start your trip early so you can find time to stop and enjoy what Cook Forest State Park has to offer. www.cookforestfunpark.homestead.comwww.canoecookforest.com

Ok guys, How about a day ride to Litchworth State Park? The park is really nice. It has Waterfalls, and a gorge that is out of this world. We were out there over Labor Day and watched the hot air balloons fly down the gorge. It was really neat to watch the balloons go up and float down the river in the gorge.
Also how about a day ride where we all meet at a point but we don't have a specific destination for the day. We just go east for the day or if we get tried of that direction we go another one. Stop and see what is along the way, find somewhere to eat at that time and ride on. We do that alot and you know you really see roads that you probably would not see other wise.

Here's another one Chili Dog........... HISTORIC ROSCOE VILLAGE off Rt-16 in Coshocton, Ohio. This is a 1800's village. Been there a few times, good old fashion ice cream. The place is really neat, store owners are dressed in old fashion clothes, cobbler shop, bake store, candy store, school house, craft stores. All the buildings are stone and in a regular street setting. The street has stoned paver's. They have a parking area for cars and bikes just before the village. Lots of nice roads you can take to get there. I think the last time the club went down as a group was around 1996.

RIVER FORKS RESTAURANT use to be called Five Forks on SR-62 just outside of Tionesta, PA. They serve a buffet meal and you can eat inside or outside on the patio deck overlooking the river and mountain range. The club has stopped here quite a few times and everyone has really enjoyed the ride out, the restaurant, and the food. If you are here, you might as well visit the Tionesta Dam. Head north on SR-62 and cross the river into Tionesta. After you cross the bridge into Tionesta, take a right on SR-36 through town, back over the river and as you climb the mountain you will see the sign for the Tionesta Dam, turn left. HISTORIC VICTORIAN BROOKVILLE, PA. Listed on the National Register of Historic Towns. The town has a 90 acre historic district with turn of the century nostalgia. I was only here once when Pam and I were coming back from a VOC Rally in Virginia. Even US 322 going through the town was nice. Stooped here and got gas and something to eat at the Country Pride Restaurant on Allegheny Blvd. I would say it would take you 3 to 4 hours back roads to get here or you can take I-80 that also runs through the town which would only take you about 2 1/2 hours from Cleveland, Ohio.

This one is close to home and I bet a lot of you didn't even know about it. THE WORLDS LARGEST VIRGIN MARY STATUE.. Windsor, Ohio It is a representation of Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose well-timed apperance in the 16th century helped the Conguistador Cortez to convert 75,000 Aztec Indians in South America from pagan rituals to Catholic worship, according to a news clipping hanging in the gift shop. The statue Mary is 33 feet tall and stands atop an angel and a cloud which boosts her height to 50 feet. The statue surface is decorated with thousands of tiny richly colored mosaic tiles. The most striking thing about this Mary is that she is out in the middle of nowhere on a farm, set so far back from the road that, for all of her largness, she can easily be missed. You can visit Mary and the gift shop at 6569 Ireland Road, Windsor, Ohio Directions: Its NW of Windsor, SE of Montville on tiny Ireland Rd., which runs north and south between US 6 and SR 86. The statue is close to SR 86 on Ireland Rd. Gift Shop open Tues-Sat. 10am - 5pm, Sun. 12 - 5pm.
After seeing Mary take SR 86 south, it will run into SR 534 at Windsor, turn right onto US 322 then make a left on the first road you come to. This will take you by Don King's Home (Legen of Boxing Fame) with more statues of Elephants, Eagles, and other animals. At the end of the road turn right, this will take you to one of Ashtabulas covered bridges. Taking another right will lead you back to US 322

Here is a ride to a place to eat. Really good home cooking, great country food. Pam and I came across this place on our way to Elkins, WV. last year. It's called the "Taste of Country" 7626 St. Rt. 45 Lisbon, Ohio., just southeast of Salem, Ohio. The place is owned by Ed & Traci Leko 330-424-4860. From Cuyahoga & Summit County you can take 480 east to 14 to 45 south From Ashtabula you can take 45 south From Lake, Geauga, Portage County take 44 south to East Canton and pick up SR 172 east, (VERY NICE COUNTRY RIDE, smooth hwy with lots of hills) to US 30 then turn left going east to 45 north, restaurant will be on your right hand side on SR 45. Lots of nice roads down in this area to ride. This will take up a good day of riding.
